Peoples organized the first Texas A&M University
Mothers' Club in Dallas in 1922, with the same
objective that remains today. She was concerned
about what she thought of as the "poor" quality
of life on this all-male campus, with no entertainment,
no culture, and a complete lack of women's influence.
The mothers' club idea spread and eight clubs became
a federation in 1928, with Mrs. F. L. Thomas as
the first Federation President. The Federation
Board of today consists of 16 officers and several
appointed positions. Those women serve as a coordinating
body for 124 clubs and membership of 8000+.
The
Austin Texas A & M
University Mothers Club was established in November
of 1939. In a town known for its burnt orange,
the Aggie Maroon is a strong presence. Just
as Mrs. Peoples wished to improve on the life
of the young cadets, so do the mothers of all
our current students.
The Austin Aggie Moms as we are affectionately
known, meet once a month for fun, fellowship
and food. We bring in speakers from the University
to gives us updates on what is happening on campus,
opportunities for our students and many other
interesting topics. Twice a year our club sends
Goody Bags to our students. For $15 per semester,
our wonderful Goody Bag team purchases and bags
great treats for our kids and delivers them to
College Station so they will have a little something
extra before finals.
We have two major fund raisers. The first is
jewelry sales. We offer an exclusively designed
bracelet from James Avery as well as Texas crafted
earrings, necklaces and rings to compliment the
design. Our second fund raiser is sponsoring
the world renowned Texas A & M University
Singing Cadets concert in Austin. We are fortunate
to have the Singing Cadets coming to perform
on January 15th at Great Hills Baptist Church.
Please visit our website for details beginning
